St. Louis Criminal Law FAQs
Can I keep working with the public defender who was assigned to my case?
Public defenders are capable lawyers who provide a valuable service to people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. However, they are often overwhelmed with enormous caseloads and may see more than a dozen people a day. If you have a public defender or a court-appointed attorney they will withdraw and stop working on your case after you hire an attorney. The public defender will then send us a copy of your file, and we will take over the case. Our attorneys are committed to you and your legal defense from start to finish.
